Adsense will generate an html code which you need to paste in the homepage of your website. It will verify your website ownership immediately and within 3 working days you will get the notification from google whether you request is approved or rejected. You will get notification if your account set-up request is approved or unfortunately rejected.

If rejected then Google team will provide you with some generic details with reasons of rejection. You can follow the instructions to qualify for Google Adsense program and post fixing all the issues you can re-apply. I strongly recommend that keep applying unless Google approve your request. You will get 2 benefits, first your request will be approved and you will learn enough on how to be compliant with Google Adsense program.
Once your request is approved then the Ads will be published on your website. You can choose the placements of the Ads and can select the pages you want to show the Ads published by Google.
